ON TAP - While Utah State won't be competing as a team at the NCAA North Central Regional Gymnastics meet, the Aggies will have six individuals competing. The meet, hosted by the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis, Minn., gets underway Saturday, April 12 at 5 p.m. (MT) at UM's Sports Pavilion (5,700).

Junior Nicki Felley and sophomore Heather Heinrich were selected as all-arounders, while senior Megan Tschida (floor) along with freshmen Jasmine Minion (vault), Lyndsie Boone (beam) and Nicole Simoneau (bars) were all chosen in their respective events.

Utah, Arkansas, Arizona, Iowa and Southern Utah will join host Minnesota in the team competition. Other individuals include Air Force's Abigail Rogers, Michelle Denise and Brittany Dutton in the all-around, while Utah State has all four individual event competitors.

ROTATION - For the first rotation, Heinrich is on vault, while Felley has a bye and Tschida is on floor. Heinrich has a bye for the second rotation, while Minion is on vault and Felley is on bars. The third rotation slates Heinrich on bars and Felley on beam, while Simoneau is on bars for the fourth rotation and Heinrich moves to beam, while Felley has a bye. Rotation five has Boone on beam while Heinrich has a by and Felley is on floor. The sixth and final rotation has Felley on vault while Heinrich is on floor.

IN THE RANKINGS - The six schools in the team competition are ranked as high as No. 2 Utah while Minnesota is No. 28. The others including 11th-ranked Arkansas, No. 14 Arizona, 23rd-ranked Iowa and No. 27 Southern Utah. Utah State came in at No. 38 while Air Force was No. 60.

UP NEXT - The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Athens, Georgia, April 24-26, hosted by the University of Georgia.

In addition, the event winners at the regional championships will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.

UTAH STATE NCAA REGIONAL HISTORY - This is just the fifth time in 31 years that the Aggies have not advanced to regionals as a team and the second in last three years after not qualifying in 2006.

That year, USU had two individuals in Jessica Parenti-Otte and Meagan Lewis qualify as individual all-arounders. Parenti-Otte and Lewis finished 14th and 15th respectively, as Parenti-Otte notched a 38.775, while Lewis posted a 38.725.

The last USU gymnast to individually qualify for the NCAA National Championships was Amber Jamison in 1999.

ABOUT UTAH STATE - Six members of the Aggies' squad were selected to the NCAA North Central Regional meet as individuals, including two all-arounders and four individual specialists.

Junior Nicki Felley and sophomore Heather Heinrich were selected as all-arounders, while senior Megan Tschida (floor) along with freshmen Jasmine Minion (vault), Lyndsie Boone (beam) and Nicole Simoneau (bars) were all chosen in their respective events.

Felley, a native of Flower Mound, Texas (Marcus HS), has an RQS of 38.595 in the all-around, currently ranked 17th in the region. This past Saturday at the WAC Championships, Felley placed fifth with a season-high 38.925, earning second-team all-WAC honors. Felley won the all-around competition in three meets this season and posted four of USU's top six scores in the all-around.

Heinrich, a Littleton, Colo. (Dakota Ridge HS) native, has a 38.320 RQS in the all-around which ranks 19th in the region. She was 11th in the all-around at the WAC Championships with a 37.900. Heinrich earned first-team all-WAC recognition after tying for third on beam with a season-high 9.825. She was the top all-arounder in two meets this season, including a career-best 39.000, which is the Aggies' highest all-around posting of the year.

Tschida is a St. Paul, Minn. (Cretin-Derham Hall HS), native returning to compete in her hometown for only the second time in her career, as the Aggies competed at Minnesota in a dual in 2006, her sophomore season. Tschida was the co-WAC Champion on floor at the conference meet with a season-best 9.925, earning first-team all-WAC accolades and recording her first-ever individual conference title and the Aggies' first floor champion since Liesel Kohler in 2005. She ranks seventh in the region with an RQS of 9.860 on floor and the WAC Championship meet was the fourth time this season in which she at least won a share of the event title.

A Memphis, Tenn. (Bolton HS) native, Minion qualified to regionals with a 9.840 vault RQS, ranking 10th in the region. She earned second-team all-WAC honors after tying for sixth on vault at the WAC meet with a 9.800. Minion won the event in three meets this season including posting a season-best 9.875 twice, winning the event in a dual at Cal State Fullerton and placing third at BYU.

Boone, a Winthrop Harbor, Ill. (Zion Benton HS) native, has a 9.600 RQS on beam which ranks her 47th regionally. She tied for 13th in the event at the WAC meet. Boone notched her season-high of 9.750 at the dual at BYU, which is one of the top four scores on beam for the Aggies.

Simoneau, a native of Manchester, N.H. (Manchester Central HS), has an RQS of 9.845 on bars after placing fourth-place at the WAC Championships with a 9.775, earning second-team all-WAC accolades. Simoneau, who has won the event in eight meets this season, has a season-best score of 9.900 in winning the bars in the dual with Southern Utah. She posted 12 marks of 9.800 or higher this season in USU's 14 meets.

LAST TIME OUT - BOISE, Idaho - With a 194.150 score, Utah State finished in fifth-place at the Western Athletic Conference Championship, held March 29 at Taco Bell Arena, hosted by Boise State. Senior Megan Tschida was co-WAC champion on floor and she was joined by four teammates in earning all-WAC accolades.

Host Boise State won the team title with a 194.925, while San Jose State was second at 194.725. Southern Utah tallied a 194.575 for third, while Sacramento State was fourth at 194.275, followed by Utah State's 194.150 and Cal State Fullerton's sixth-place finish at 192.650.

Tschida notched a 9.925 on floor to tie for first with Boise State's Hannah Redmon, who went on the win the all-around title. Joining Tschida on the first-team all-WAC list was sophomore Heather Heinrich's tied for third-place finish on beam with a 9.825.

Four other marks earned USU gymnasts second-team honors, led by freshman Nicole Simoneau, who was tied for fourth on bars with a 9.775, while junior Nicky Felley was fifth in the all-around with a 38.925 and was tied for sixth on beam with a 9.800. Freshman Jasmine Minion rounded out the Aggie honorees with a 9.800 on vault, good for a tie for sixth.

At the conclusion of the meet, Boise State's co-coaches of Neil Resnick and Tina Bird were named the WAC Coaches of the Year, while Hannah Redmon of Boise State was tabbed the both the WAC Gymnast of the Year and the WAC Freshman of the Year.

USU opened the six rotations on bars, as senior Katie Omann led off with a 9.650, while freshman teammate Chelsea Marquardt later posted a 9.675. Fellow freshman Nicole Simoneau closed out the rotation with a team-best 9.775, giving Utah State a 47.925 after one event.

The Aggies moved on to beam for the second rotation, as Felley opened with a season-high 9.800, just shy of her career-best 9.825. Freshman Lyndsie Boone followed with a 9.725, preceding Omann's 9.650 before Heinrich wrapped up USU's order with a season-best 9.825, also just shy of her career-high of 9.850. Utah State ended with a 48.550 on beam to tally a 96.475 after two rotations.

For the third rotation, USU had a bye, and the Aggies found themselves at the bottom of the six-team standings at the halfway point of the meet. Boise State led with a 98.175, followed by Sacramento State in second at 97.375, just ahead of Southern Utah's 96.325 for third. Cal State Fullerton was in fourth at 96.900, followed by San Jose State's 96.700 in fifth and Utah State's sixth-place 96.475 score.

USU migrated to floor for the fourth sequence, as senior Ana Rickard-Whitfield started things off with a 9.675, followed by Boone with a 9.800. Freshman Jasmine Minion later logged a 9.800, preceding a 9.700 from Felley then Tschida completed the rotation with a season-best 9.925, USU's highest score this season not only on floor but on a single event overall. The Aggies notched a 48.900 as a team on floor, tied for the third-best posting of the year in the event.

On vault for the fifth rotation and its final apparatus of the night, Utah State opened with a 9.675 from Boone, followed by a 9.750 from Felley. Omann then posted a season-best 9.775. Freshman Jackie Dillon was next with a 9.675, then Heinrich's 9.775 before Minion rounded out the event with a 9.800.

USU had its second bye of the night in the final rotation, ending with a 194.1, the Aggies' third-highest posting this season and Utah State had its five best scores of the season in the final five meets of the year.

REGIONAL HISTORY - In the 31-year history of the USU gymnastics program, the Aggies have qualified for regionals 26 times, with the highest finish coming in 1982 when the Aggies placed second and went on to the National Championships, where they placed ninth... USU's most recent appearance at the regional championships was in 2007 when the Aggies placed sixth at the North Central Regional meet.

IN THE NATION - Utah State gymnastics began the 2008 season ranked 33rd in the country according to the Troester Women's Preseason Coaches Poll, before falling as low as No. 46 in the Jan. 21 rankings. USU is at No. 38 in this week's RQS rankings.

Five USU opponents are ranked in this week's Top 25: No. 2 Utah (Feb. 22), No. 10 Oklahoma (Feb. 9), 13th-ranked Denver (Feb. 9 and Feb. 29), 16th-ranked Boise State (Jan. 11, Jan. 22, March 29) and No. 20 Kentucky (March 14)... Other Aggie opponents just outside the top 25 are No. 27 Southern Utah (Feb. 4, Feb. 22, March 21, March 29), 29th-ranked BYU (Feb. 15, March 10), No. 32 San Jose State (March 7 and March 29), 37th-ranked New Hampshire (Feb. 15), No. 35 Sacramento State (Jan. 18 and March 29)... Other USU opponents include 41st-ranked Texas Woman's (March 14), No. 43 Cal State Fullerton (Jan. 27 and March 29) and Air Force (Feb. 9).

ALL-WAC HONOREES - USU had five gymnasts earn all-WAC accolades this year, as senior Megan Tschida was co-WAC champ on floor to earn first-team recognition. Tschida notched a 9.925 on floor to tie for first. Joining Tschida on the first-team all-WAC list was sophomore Heather Heinrich's tied for third-place finish on beam with a 9.825.

Four other marks earned USU gymnasts second-team honors, led by freshman Nicole Simoneau, who was tied for fourth on bars with a 9.775, while junior Nicky Felley was fifth in the all-around with a 38.925 and was tied for sixth on beam with a 9.800. Freshman Jasmine Minion rounded out the Aggie honorees with a 9.800 on vault, good for a tie for sixth.

ACADEMIC ALL-WAC - Utah State had six gymnasts named academic all-Western Athletic Conference... Of the 13 Utah State student-athletes to be recognized by the WAC, six were gymnasts, including one who is receiving academic all-conference honors for the fourth straight year, one being honored for the third time, while two more are being honored for the second time in a row.

WESTERN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE RETURNERS - The Aggies return four all-WAC honorees, in seniors Katie Omann (first-team vault) and Megan Tschida (first-team floor), junior Nicki Felley (second-team bars and floor) and sophomore Heather Heinrich (first-team vault). Tschida also earned WAC Specialist of the Week honors (Feb. 26, 2007).

Five Aggie returners also earned academic all-WAC accolades in seniors Katie Omann, Ana Rickard-Whitfield, junior Nicki Felley and sophomores Heather Heinrich and Devin Markle.

MINION TABBED WAC GYMNASTICS SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK - Utah State gymnast Jasmine Minion has been named the Western Athletic Conference Gymnastics Specialist of the Week it was announced by the conference office on March 17, for the week of March 10-16.

Minion, a freshman from Memphis, Tenn. (Bolton HS) recorded a career-best 9.900 on floor at the Texas Woman's quad meet (3/14). The mark tied her for first in the event and is Utah State's first 9.900 on any event this season. Minion's 9.900 is the second-best mark on floor in the WAC this season and ranks as the fourth-highest score on floor in USU history. She becomes the 15th Aggie in school history to notch a 9.900 on floor. Minion also posted a career-best mark on vault with a 9.875, placing her third at BYU (3/10). The 9.875 on vault is the fourth-best mark in USU history as she becomes just the ninth athlete in USU history to post such a score on the apparatus. Minion's 9.875 on vault is the second-highest score in the WAC this season in the event, as she is the only second gymnast in the conference to post that score.

This is the first conference honor for a USU gymnast this season after having three gymnast of the week and two specialist of the week accolades last year.

2008 TEAM CAPTAINS - Seniors Kelly Patterson and Katie Omann along with junior Nicki Felley are serving as team captains. This is Patterson's third season in the position, while it is Omann's and Felley's first.

HEAD COACH RAY CORN - Ray Corn has created and maintained a tradition of success in his 31 years at Utah State, both in the gym and in the classroom.

As the only coach in USU's Division I gymnastics history, he has led the Aggies to the postseason 26 times, including five trips to the national championships. Corn owns an overall record of 442-444-2, with a regular-season record of 389-288-2.

Corn was named the Midwest Regional Coach of the Year in 1991, earned Big West Co-Coach of the Year honors in 1994 and was named Big West Coach of the Year in 1998 and 2001. He also earned Coach of the Year honors in the High Country Athletic Conference in 1986, 1987 and 1988 and was named WGC Coach of the Year in 2005.

Corn has coached three All-Americans, three Olympians, two World Championship competitors and had nine gymnasts qualify for the NCAA National Championships.

Nicki Felley - Was second in the all-around at Boise State, scoring a 36.775... Was tied for sixth on vault (9.600), ninth on floor (9.250), 10th on beam and 12th on bars (8.900) at the Boise State dual... Against Sac State, she posted 9.675 on beam (5th), 9.650 (T-5th) on bars, as well as tying season high with 9.600 (T-6th) on vault and scoring a 9.100 (11th) on floor, totaling a USU-best 38.025 (3rd) in the all-around... Won the all-around of the home Boise State dual with a season-high 38.775... Posted season-highs in three of the four events with a 9.775 (5th) on floor, 9.700 (7th) on vault and 9.675 (7th) on beam... Also had a 9.625 (9th) on bars... Captured top honors in the all-around for the second meet in a row with a 38.650... LAST SEASON: Had a career-best 39.005 in the all-around at the WAC Championships (3/31)... Posted a career-high with a 9.875 on vault at home against Southern Utah (2/23), tying the 13th-best mark in USU history... Also tallied a career-best on the floor with a 9.900 at San Jose State with Boise State and Seattle Pacific (1/26), a mark that is tied for 19th in school history and tied for the best score for USU... Had season averages of 38.635 in all-around, 9.686 on floor exercise, 9.625 on vault, 9.325 on beam and 9.700 on bars... Her 9.700 bars average is the 14th-best single-season average in USU history... Earned second-team all-WAC honors by finishing sixth in the all-around at the WAC Championships with her career-best score of 39.050, after placing tied for fourth on bars (9.800), tied for sixth on floor (9.775), tied for eighth on beam (9.825) and 29th in vault (9.650)... Earned second-team all-WAC in bars and floor... Received academic all-WAC honors as well as the USU Joe E. and Elma Whitesides Scholar-Athlete Award.

Heather Heinrich - Was first in the all-around at Boise State, scoring a 36.875... Placed eighth on floor (9.350), ninth on vault (9.400) and tied for 10th on both bars (9.100) and beam (9.025)... In the Sac State dual, tallied 9.650 (4th) on vault and 9.600 (7th) on beam, as well as 8.950 (12th) on floor and 8.850 (12th) on bars, for a total of a 37.050 (6th) in the all-around, for a season high... Tallied season-highs in all three events she competed in at home against Boise State with a 9.800 (3rd) on beam, 9.750 (4th) on vault and 9.700 (7th) on bars... At Cal State Fullerton, she posted season-high 37.450 in all-around (3rd), as well as season-highs 9.775 (3rd) on vault and 9.450 (T-10th) on floor... Also scored 9.225 on beam (5th) and 9.000 on bars (12th)...
